Look no further than Tissot, a brand founded in 1853 by father-son duo Charles-Félicien Tissot and Charles-Émile Tissot. During this time period it was very labor-intensive and time consuming to produce a mechanical movement, meaning people normally only had one good watch.
By 1858 the younger son Charles-Émile set his eyes on expanding the business to the Russian Empire with the Czars blessing. Years of hard work finally paid off in 1887 when Tissot was charged with designing a pocket watch for Swiss President Numa Droz. In just 30 short years the Tissot family had built a watch making dynasty.
The year 1930 saw a partnership between Tissot and Omega with the creation of the Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère (SSIH). This would later become a part of The Swatch Group in 1983. In recent years Tissot has released many affordable watches with incredible value. The watches are all Swiss made, meaning at least 50% of its added value comes from Switzerland and must be assembled and inspected there as well.
